Young diplomats of Yamal will visit the UN headquarters in New York

The 18th Session of the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues will be opened in New York (the USA) on the 22nd of April. The delegation of Yamal includes representatives of the department on affairs of indigenous ethnic minorities of the North and schoolchildren from the club of young diplomats. The director of the specialized department Inna Sotruyeva will speak on the report “Traditional knowledge: creation, transfer and protection” on the second day of the forum.
According to the information given to a correspondent of the news agency “Sever-Press” in the regional department of external relations, the young diplomats will visit the UN headquarters in New York, will get acquainted with work of the Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the UN. They will also meet with teachers and students of the secondary school with in-depth study of foreign language at the Mission of the Russian Federation to the UN. They will take a tour to the University of Columbia, will visit the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in New York and the representational office of Rossotrudnichestvo.
As we should remind, in February the specialized department held the competitive selection among young diplomats for participation in the activities of the UN Permanent forum. Four schoolgirls from Salekhard and Labytnangi became the winners.
The United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues is the highest consultative body being busy with economic and social development, culture, environment, education, healthcare and human rights of indigenous peoples. It consists of 16 experts. The representatives of Yamal within the official Russian delegation participated in work of the UN Permanent forum on issues of indigenous peoples of the world in 2016, 2017 and 2018.
