The Russian Association of Indigenous Peoples of the North, Siberia and the Far East announced about the beginning of acceptance of works for the second literary contest “Voice of the North”. The event is held to search for and identify authors, who write about everyday life, traditions and customs of indigenous peoples.
2019 was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly as the International year of the world’s indigenous languages. The Association decided to hold the second literary contest “Voice of the North” in 2019 among beginning authors writing in languages of indigenous peoples of the North, Siberia and the Far East of the Russian Federation.
According to the public organization, the contest will be held in two stages in two nominations: “Prose” and “Poetry”. Works are being accepted from the 10th of May to the 1st of October of 2019. They should be written in native languages of indigenous peoples of the North, Siberia and the Far East with translation into Russian. After consideration of the works by the jury and experts the list of finalists (the shortlist) will be formed from the 1st to the 15th October of 2019, and winners will be defined till the 30th of October of 2019. The winners will be awarded with monetary prizes, and the best works will be published in the collection. Participation in the contest is free.
As we should remind, the first literary contest “Voice of the North” was held in 2017. And 473 works by 266 participants from 60 regions of Russia were presented, from Kamchatka to Murmansk Oblast, and also seven near and far foreign countries. The shortlist of the contest included works by 25 authors, and they were published in the collection with the same title. The book has more than 600 pages dedicated to everyday life, traditions and customs of indigenous peoples of the North, Siberia and the Far East of the Russian Federation.
