Landing of the helicopter MI-8MTV on board of the icebreaker “Alexander Sannikov” was fulfilled for the first time. The historical event also launched use of aerial vehicles of this class on the twin icebreaker “Andrey Vilkitsky”.
Both icebreakers provide icebreaking support of tankers in the Gulf of Ob. They are equipped with helipads that allow accepting helicopters MI-8. However, earlier landing of only the helicopter MI-2 was fulfilled on the vessels. This type of helicopters is not used in “Gazprom Neft”.
The first landing of the helicopter MI-8MTV on the icebreaker “Alexander Sannikov” was fulfilled by the deputy flight director – commander of the separate aviation squadron “UTair-Helicopter services” Viktor Chernysh. He has big experience of such flights, including on the platform “Prirazlomnaya” of the helicopter Ka-32. Training for flights of other three pilots to icebreakers was fulfilled under his direct leadership. This information was given to the news agency “Sever-Press” in the company “Gazpromneft-Yamal”.
Within practical trainings each flight crew fulfilled 20 landings on icebreakers, including one – with the engine shutting down and landing with loading of the helicopter with personnel and their delivery to the shore. Practical skills of interaction of the crews of the icebreaker and the helicopter and also actions in the case of emergency situations were worked.
Till this time 7 pilots passed education to landing of the helicopter MI-8MTV on the icebreakers “Alexander Sannikov” and “Andrey Vilkitsky”. They are four employees of the company “Yamal Airlines” and three pilots of “UTair”.
“Owing to the conducted work it is possible to say that the educated pilots are ready to fly to icebreakers. We do not plan to use MI-8MTV for everyday work, but urgent necessity in the given transport can appear in autumn within ice formation and in early summer within ice motion – delivery of people and equipment from the shore is difficult within these seasons. In conditions of autonomy different situations can be formed: sometimes it needs to deliver a sick person to the land or necessary components of equipment – to the ship”, as the management director on exploitation of the terminal and the fleet of “Gazpromneft-Yamal” Aleksey Kurteyev said.
As we should remind, the diesel-electric icebreakers “Alexander Sannikov” and “Andrey Vilkitsky” were built on the order of “Gazprom Neft” on Vyborg Shipyard. The powerful ships provide safe route for tankers to the terminal “Vorota Arktiki” in the Gulf of Ob and fulfill the wide list of tasks in difficult ice conditions: mooring and towing operations, protection of the terminal from ice impacts. Oil extracted in Novoportovskoye field and offloaded through the terminal “Vorota Arktiki” is transported to consumers on the Northern Sea Route.
