The company “Gazpromneft-Razvitie” built the first multilateral well with five branches on the technology “fishbone” in Tazovskoye oil, gas, condensate field.
The well was drilled in complicated mining and geological conditions. It is referred to the category of unique wells. Its structure has 5 sidetrack wells with the average length 380 meters. The total drilling progress on the design horizon made about 3800 meters. In spite of difficult conditions of drilling and complex multilateral structure, the well was built in the record time 25 days – 5 days before the planned time. The speed of drilling made 1000 meters per 4.5 days and became record one, as it is informed on the website of “Gazpromneft-Razvitie”.
Drilling of wells on the technology “fishbone” has been fulfilled by “Gazprom Neft” already not for the first year. However, such decision was taken in Tazovskoye oil, gas, condensate field for the first time. Effectiveness of the “fishbone” with consideration of geological features of Tazovskoye field will be evaluated till the middle of this year, after startup and operation of the well. In the prospect wells with such structure can receive wider spread at development of the asset.
The technology of building of multilateral wells with several horizontal parts with the length 2000 meters each is being tested in Tazovskoye field. The first two have been already drilled and input to operation. Monitoring of their operational parameters is being conducted for assessment of effectiveness.
Last year in the course of development of Tazovskoye field the company “Gazpromneft-Razvitie” built 13 high-tech wells. In total, it is planned to drill 132 oil and 10 gas wells here. Input to operation and the beginning of industrial development of the field are planned for 2020. The peak of extraction is forecasted in 2021 and will make about 2 million 100 thousand tonnes.
Tazovskoye oil, gas, condensate field is referred to the class of large ones with the low exploration maturity. Its initial geological reserves make 438 million tonnes of oil and 186 milliard cubic meters of free gas and gas of the gas cap.
“Positive results in the course of building of the “fishbone” well in Tazovskoye field was achieved owing to high organizing of work of the drilling contractor, effective interaction between all the participants of the building process and also use of the best practices – both own and from other companies of oil and gas sector”, as the head of the project “Tazovskiy” of “Gazpromneft – Razvitie” Aleksey Artamonov said.
As we should note, “fishbone” is a multilateral well with a special trajectory, in which numerous branches (sidetrack wells) go from one horizontal wellbore. As a result, the well resembles a fish skeleton in its shape — hence the name.
Such trajectory of horizontal wellbores allows significantly increasing coverage of oil-saturated areas of a stratum in comparison to a traditional horizontal wellbore. At that, it requires smaller amount of drilling than building of a separate well on each horizontal wellbore.
