The company “Gazprom Neft” and the government of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug are extending cooperation aimed at elaboration of effective technologies for development of reserves of oil deposits in the Achimov Formation. At the St. Petersburg international economic forum the governor of Yamal Dmitry Artyukhov and chairman of the board of “Gazprom Neft” Alexander Dyukov signed the Memorandum of understanding on issues of establishment of the technological center for development of Achimov deposits.
Creation of the new center is aimed at cost-effective involvement of reserves of the Achimov Formation, which belong to the category of hard-to-recover, to development. Specialists of geological exploration in “Gazprom Neft” have already developed the industry’s first digital model of the Achimov Formation. The instrument contains the results of analysis of extractive fields in Western Siberia on the territory of more than 1 million 500 thousand square kilometers. According to experts of the company, resource potential of hydrocarbons of the Achimov Formation of the West Siberian oil and gas basin reaches 66 milliard tonnes of oil equivalent. Now the state balance of the Russian Federation contains 10 milliard 400 million tonnes of geological reserves of oil of the Achimov Formation, as well as 4 milliard 400 million cubic meters of gas and 1 milliard 400 million tonnes of gas condensate. More than a half of these reserves are located on the territory of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, as the press service of “Gazprom Neft” reports.
For effective development of Achimov reserves it is necessary to overcome a number of technological challenges. To solve them “Gazprom Neft” proposed to create a test site for conducting of experimental-industrial testing of new technologies and development of existing ones on the basis of one of the license areas of the company in Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. The concept of the technological center provides for interaction between subsoil users, manufacturers of equipment and software, educational institutions, research institutes and innovative centers. To exchange experience it is planned to create the single information platform and Data Centre.
According to expert calculations, with successful implementation of the project the potential amount of tax allocations to the budgets of all levels can make up to 10 trillion rubles. The Memorandum signed at SPIEF also provides for preparation of substantiation of the special legal status of Achimov deposits.
“Colossal potential in part of development of Achimov deposits is concentrated in Yamal. This is a strategic reserve for reliable growth of oil production in the country. Until recently the access to these resources was impossible because of geological structure of the layers. Now “Gazprom Neft” has technological potential, and the government of the region will provide comprehensive support to the company. Eventually, solving this technologically complex task will give huge resources for socioeconomic development of our region and the country in general”, Dmitry Artyukhov underlined.
“Implementation of the large-scale investment project on development of Achimov deposits in Yamal is strategically important not only for our company, but also for the entire oil and gas industry of the country. The talk is about considerable resources: according to the preliminary estimates, their development can provide from 20 to 40 million tonnes per year of additional oil production. Now we are actively working on creation of the set of technologies for cost-effective development of Achimov deposits. Creation of the test area will allow consolidating resources of all the sides being interested in solving this task and in development of oil and gas industry in general”, said Alexander Dyukov.
The Achimov Formation includes layers located in the lower part of Cretaceous deposits practically directly above the Bazhenov Formation (a group of rock formations in Western Siberia lying at depths from two to three kilometers). The Achimov Formation is widespread in the central zone of the Western Siberian basin, the area is more than 900 thousand square kilometers, the most powerful layers are revealed in Nadymskiy and Purovskiy districts of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. Achimov layers are characterized with complex geological structure, what requires using technologically complex methods in development of these reserves.
