Russia Day is celebrated every year on the 12th of June. It is a holiday of freedom, civil peace and good understanding, which symbolizes freedom and unity of the nation. Russia Day is one of the youngest, but very important state holidays.
The meeting and the concert “Russia — our great power!” dedicated to Russia Day took place in Salekhard on the 12th of June, at the square near the center for culture and sport. Traditionally, the holiday gathered labor collectives, trade union organizations, representatives of public organizations, of political parties, youth and veterans.
Representatives of the authorities and deputies of the town and the region congratulated residents of the regional capital. Russia Day as a holiday uniting people in every corner of the country was the leitmotif of their speeches.
“We are sincerely proud of our Fatherland, its great history, unshakable traditions being passed from generation to generation. Our task is to preserve and increase these traditions, to work for the benefit of our country”, a deputy governor of Yamal Arkady Bessonov congratulated the audience.
The ceremony of giving passports to young residents of Salekhard at the age of 14 years old took place also at the stage.
Then the holiday was continued with the concerts “My Yamal — my Russia” and “Greeting Russia — my Motherland”. Laureates and winners of the festival-contest “Many peoples – one country”, representatives of diasporas, public organizations, soloists, creative collectives and ensembles performed at the stage.
As it should be noted, on the 12th of June of 1990 the first congress of people’s deputies of the RSFSR (the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic) adopted the Declaration on state sovereignty of Russia. The 12th of June has become a festive date since 1992, according to the resolution of the Supreme Council of the Russian Federation as the Day of adoption of the declaration on state sovereignty of Russia. On the 12th of June, 1998, the President of Russia Boris Yeltsin proposed to rename the holiday as Russia Day. Officially, this name was given with adoption of the new Labor Code on the 1st of February, 2002.
On Russia Day in the Kremlin Vladimir Putin gives the state prizes of the Russian Federation. Celebrations that end with fireworks take place in Moscow on the Red Square. On this day festive programs are held in all towns and districts of Yamal.
