Biological resources of the Arctic should be promoted in pharmaceutical markets of China. At the same time, their study and manufacture of primary substances should be carried out in Yamal, and manufacture of medicaments — in China, as it will provide access for the products to Chinese markets. This information was given by the deputy director of the scientific center for study of the Arctic Andrey Lobanov on the sidelines of the VI EXPO in Harbin.
“For us it is essential to create a laboratory, that is, key research should take place in Yamal. The second point is in creation of substances based on these products, and the final assemblage of products should be fulfilled in China, because it is the “entrance ticket” to the huge Chinese market. And if we do not assemble a medicament within the holding, we do not have access to the Chinese market”, he said.
Lobanov notes that cooperation with Chinese partners, including the University of Guangdong Province and the Institute of Oceanology of Qingdao, is made in the form of an agreement.
“All negotiations were held, the draft agreement was made, it provides for scientific cooperation at the first stage, creation of a laboratory in Yamal — at the second stage”, as Arctic-info quotes him.
According to the scientist, now biological resources of the Arctic can not be used in the pharmaceutical industry of China, as they do not correspond to the Chinese classification of the Wu Xing.
“Let’s say we have huge reserves of lichen — they are not used in China. We have large reserves of sphagnum, which is used in pharmaceutics. The most interesting plant — Shiksha (a shrub of the heather family) — is a stimulant that is also not used in medicine, it also needs to be introduced into this turnover, as well as products of reindeer husbandry, various organs of a reindeer, velvet antlers”, Lobanov explained.
