On the weekend runners opened the season of big competitions in two big towns of Yamal. They are participating in the first stage of the running races within the project of the children’s football club “Yamal” being supported by the Presidential Grants Foundation. It summer it is planned to attract about 1000 town-dwellers to running sport. In total, five big running races will be organized.
Children, men and women ran their distances at the stadiums in Labytnangi and Noyabrsk. The sports referees determined different distances for young athletes aged from 5 to 16 years old: depending on the age, they run from 250 to 500 meters. Women overcame the distance of one kilometer, men — two kilometers.
Previously free training for everyone was regularly held on the open sports grounds of the town. The author of the project Olga Podkovyrkina managed to attract the huge number of people to running sport. Last year more than a thousand people took the path of the healthy lifestyle. And this is not the limit, every day the number of fans of running sport increases. Cups, medals, diplomas, a pedestal, sports t-shirts for referees were purchased for the funds of the grant. Thus, the winners did not stay without presents. The participants of the running race shared pieces of advice on training.
The series of running races will be held from June to September. Children, grownups, men, women, pensioners, experienced and novice athletes can participate in them. The series of running races will be organized at different distances: 150 m, 1500 m in the town; 5 km and 10 km cross-running for advanced runners. Traditionally, the project will be completed with September cross-running, the most popular athletics event of the year.
As it should be noted, the project “Yamal cross-country running” appeared on the initiative of citizens after the open championship in cross-country running in 2017 in Labytnangi. It all started with the visit of the prizewinner of the Olympic Games in Seoul Tamara Bykova to Labytnangi in 2016. She noticed that the notorious myth of oxygen starvation did not prevent from raising champions in biathlon. The project was started in summer of 2018, and it was so popular that 700 residents of Labytnangi and neighboring towns and villages joined it. Later the authors developed winter routes for amateurs of running sport. The project of the children’s football club “Yamal” has received support from the Presidential Grants Foundation for the second time. The grant made 985 thousand rubles.
