Before going to Vilkitsky Island volunteers will take short but effective courses

In Salekhard the participants of the ecological expedition to Vilkitsky Island gathered for training camps. According to the information given by the chairman of the interregional public ecological-sociological organization “Green Arctic” Yevgeniy Rozhkovskiy to a correspondent of the news agency “Sever-Press”, the event is taking place in Obdorsk Ostrog (the reconstruction of the old-time fortress). It is organized in order the potential participants during 5 days would create an effective team that can work effectively and harmoniously.
In total, 30 people will go to the Arctic from the 10th of July to the 10th of August. The geography of participants is wide – the volunteers came from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Kazan, Kogalym, Langepas, Urai, Syktyvkar, Nadym, Salekhard, Tyumen, Lipetsk, Omsk, Ukhta and Yaroslavl.
“Citizens from the republics of Moldova and Kazakhstan and also from Israel will participate in the ecological cleaning of the island together with the Russian participants. It is planned to complete the preparation stage on the 9th of July”, Yevgeniy Rozhkovskiy explained.
As it should be reminded, the general cleaning has been fulfilled on the island since 2017. The group, which included skilled volunteers, who had showed themselves well in the previous expeditions to Beliy Island, was sent here. They were busy with research and assessment of state of ecology on the arctic island. Then the volunteers began cleaning the area of the weather station. Wooden pallets for storage of casks and garbage were built. In addition to the ecological cleaning, the team prepared a place for stay of next expeditions, conducted aero-photography, inventory of hazardous wastes and objects of former infrastructure, research of soil and vegetation, radio-ecological and hydro-ecological studies. During two short summers the volunteers cleaned the area in 32 hectares, collected 135 tonnes of scrap metal. The total amount of scrap metal to be removed makes 802 tonnes.
