The expedition to settlements of compact residence of small indigenous peoples of Yugra and Yamal was completed. The scientists recorded samples of speech of Khanty, Mansi, Komi-Zyryan and Nenets peoples. The researchers visited settlements of Beryozovsky, Beloyarskiy, Shuryshkarskiy, Priuralskiy and Yamalskiy districts. The work is being fulfilled within the project “Linguistic and culturological reconstruction of the ethno-space of Western Siberia” and is being implemented with support of the Russian Foundation for Basic Research (RFBR).
According to the head of the project, professor of Tyumen State University Guzel Fayzullina sub-dialects of peoples living compactly in Western Siberia are the object of the study. And dialectal and vernacular features of verbal speech of Slavic, Turkic, Finno-Ugric, Samoyedic and other populations are the subject of the study. The multimedia geo-information platform “The ethno-space of Western Siberia” will become the main result of the project.
“The IT-resource being created will become a new type of storage of functioning of indigenous languages of Western Siberia with description of their phonetic, lexical and grammatical properties”, said Guzel Fayzullina. “Its resources (with subsequent filling) will provide ample opportunities for scientific research: from study of a sub-dialect of a certain locality to cross-cutting studies on various criteria such as age, gender, occupation and others”.
The study will cover settlements with compact residence of small peoples not only in Tyumen Oblast (with Yugra and Yamal), but also in Kurgan, Novosibirsk, Tomsk, Omsk, Kemerovo regions, as well as Altai Krai and the Altai Republic. As reported by Tyumen State University, expeditions to Surgutskiy and Tazovskiy districts are planned for September.
