In 2021 the keel of the pilot gas carrier for the project of NOVATEK “Arctic LNG 2” will be laid at the shipyard “Zvezda”. Konstantin Laptev, the director of the Rosneft department for technique and technology localization – the acting director general of “The Far Eastern Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Center” gave this information in the interview to RIA “Novosti”.
According to him, it is planned to build ships – gas carriers with the maximum degree of localization. Thus, starting with the first vessel of the series, it is planned to assemble and paint the hull of the vessel, to install all equipment and systems of the ship, to install a membrane system of LNG tankers, to conduct commissioning and testing operations on the territory of Russia. Laptev notes that it is supposed to perform almost all key operations at “Zvezda”.
According to him, shipbuilding is one of the most high-tech and capital-intensive areas of production, therefore, it requires definite state support. It is especially important in conditions of severe competition with foreign shipyards and with consideration that such complex vessels have never been built in Russia before.
As it should be reminded, in late 2018 NOVATEK signed the preliminary contract with “Zvezda” on construction of 14 gas carriers for “Arctic LNG 2”. In April “Zvezda” and Sovcomflot concluded the contract for construction of the pilot gas carrier for the project. Its delivery date is scheduled for the first quarter of 2023. Thus, in total it is planned to build 15 gas carriers at “Zvezda” for the project “Arctic LNG 2”.
One more vessel designed for work on the project “Yamal LNG” of NOVATEK went to sea trials before. This is the port icebreaker “Ob” being built at the Vyborg shipyard for Rosatomflot. Verification of specifications and modes of ship equipment will take place in waters of the Gulf of Finland.
“This is the final stage before delivery of the vessel”, said Mustafa Kashka, the director general of Atomflot. “We hope that the program of sea trials will be successfully worked out. “Ob” is the first non-atomic icebreaker of the enterprise; it will perform the full scope of work in the Gulf of Ob”.
The sea trials will be held in two stages, the first of which will last till the 15th of September, as it is informed in the communications department of Rosatomflot. During this period all systems of the ship will be tested – a power plant, steering and anchor devices, navigation and radio communications and seaworthiness of the vessel.
“Atomflot” is the ship owner and operator of the port icebreaker “Ob”. In November of 2014 the company signed the contract on providing of a range of services of the port fleet, piloting of ships and servicing of water areas of the port of Sabetta for the project “Yamal LNG” valid till the 31st of December of 2040.
