From fairy tales and legends to topical issues. An ethnologist returned from the nomadic camp

A researcher of the sector of ethnology of the scientific center for study of the Arctic Stella Razdymakha returned from the folklore-ethnographic expedition around Yamalskiy district. The researcher visited the settlements Yar-Salye, Syunay-Salye and nomadic camps, where she collected materials for scientific and research work on adaptation of nomadic indigenous population to settled life and for replenishment of the Folklore archive of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug.
During the expedition the ethnologist recorded five fairy tales and legends in Nenets language for the Folklore archive of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, which is conducted in the scientific center for study of the Arctic, as it is informed in the department of external relations. With help of native speakers she translated the texts into Russian.
Stella Razdymakha recorded interviews with former reindeer herders, who had moved to the settlements. With representatives of the administration of Yamalskiy district she participated in the general meeting of the nomadic camp on discussion of problems of indigenous population. She identified a circle of native speakers, who would give information for further work. The scientist was interested in how former nomads adapt to the new settled conditions, how issues of their employment, housing, providing with fuel in nomadic camps and other problems are solved. According to the results of the study, analytical notes will be submitted to the executive bodies of the power.
