A choum and a shaman’s buben from Yamal will appear in Moscow

The festival of the Russian Geographical Society will take place from the 13th to the 22nd of September in Zaryadye Park in Moscow. During 10 days visitors will have the opportunity to get acquainted to different nature of Russia and cultural legacy of peoples of the country. Guests of the festival will learn how to travel around regions of Russia in interesting and affordable manner.
Street installations will be set on the territory of the park within the festival. A choum from Yamal will be among them. (The note: a choum is the nomadic dwelling, similar to a tepee). In the traditional dwelling of northern nomads the guests will be able to participate in master-classes of bone-carving art and themselves will made souvenirs of reindeer and moose bone and even mammoth tusk.
Ethnic songs being performed by the head of the Nenets folkloric group “Vy’sey” Tatyana Lar will acquaint residents of Moscow with secrets of the northern soul, and sound of the shaman’s buben (tambourine) will immerse into the unforgettable atmosphere of “the edge of the earth”.
In addition to entertainments, the program of the festival includes lectures of famous scientists and travelers, creative meetings with photographers and cinematographers, master-classes in dancing, playing musical instruments and decorative-applied art. Performances of ethnic and national collectives from the whole Russia, demonstrations of documentary films, intellectual games and quizzes with prizes will take place within the festival.
