The department on affairs of indigenous ethnic minorities of the North in Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug is forming the interactive analytical map of ethnic trading stations. The principle of its work was discussed on the 12th of September at the meeting dedicated to improvement of system on support for trading stations in Yamal.
Additional layers with information are being created on the basis of the Unified Cartographic System of the Autonomous Okrug. The developed data model enables tracking financial and statistical indicators of trading stations, travelling routes of reindeer-herding brigades, location of seasonal nomadic camps, as the press-service of the head of Yamal informs. The map also shows points of attraction for nomads, where there is access to the Internet, cellular communication, premises for medical examination and essential goods.
“57 trading stations have been created in Yamal for the present day. 34 of them are referred to the special category of “socially significant” — they are remote from settlements and play an important role in provision for tundra-dwellers”, said the Vice-Governor of the Autonomous Okrug Irina Sokolova. – “Now the government of the region is working actively to improve the system of life support for indigenous people in Yamal. The interactive map is a tool that will allow us to obtain up-to-date data on all trading stations in real time”.
In Yamal trading stations are necessary for sale of consumer goods, food products, fuel to indigenous ethnic groups leading the traditional way of life, as well as for communication and informing tundra-dwellers about decisions being taken by the authorities. The government of the Autonomous Okrug provides them with financial and property support, compensating costs for delivering of goods to hard-to-reach territories, and also with property for use.
As it should be noted, re-registration of indigenous population is being fulfilled in the region along with digitalization of information on trading stations. Information about people, who lead the traditional lifestyle, is entered into the UIS “Yamal” (Unified Information System), which is used by the government of Yamal to provide measures of support.
