The plenipotentiary envoy of the President of Russia to Ural Federal Okrug Nikolay Tsukanov held the sitting of the Council on economic policy within the ninth interregional agro-industrial exhibition of the Federal Okrug in Yekaterinburg. The participants discussed export of agricultural products, measures of support for farmers and development of rural cooperation, as well as the course of the harvesting campaign.
Nikolay Tsukanov noted that the President of Russia had set the ambitious task for the regional authorities — 2.5 times to increase the amount of food exports by 2024. In particular, increase in exports from 253 million to 600 million dollars in value terms should take place in regions of Ural Federal Okrug. The plenipotentiary envoy is confident that the Federal Okrug has potential for these aims. At the same time, special attention should be paid to projects on deep processing of products.
At the sitting a deputy governor of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, the director of the department of external relations Alexander Mazharov told about the regional project “Export of agro-industrial products of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug”. According to him, the region needs almost three times to increase the amount of exports of agricultural products by 2024 — up to 6 million 100 thousand dollars. At the same time, products of traditional industries — reindeer husbandry and fish farming are the most promising. Alexander Mazharov reminds that Yamal is the only Russian exporter of reindeer meat. Foreign deliveries have been fulfilled since 2008. Last year the region sold about 500 tonnes of organic reindeer meat to Germany and Finland. In addition, since last year deliveries of reindeer hides to Finland have been started successfully. Yamal also aims to enter markets of countries of the Asian-Pacific region; the main stake is placed on fish products, and not on raw materials, but on products of deep processing. The estimated potential of fish exports is 1 million cans of canned food annually, or about 240 tonnes.
The deputy governor of Yamal drew attention to the fact that reindeer hides and velvet antlers are not included in the methodology for calculation of indicators of the federal project on export of agro-industrial products. Accordingly, these products are not taken into consideration for the region, but exactly they are the resource to increase exports and have significant growth potential. Therefore, Alexander Mazharov appealed to the plenipotentiary envoy with the request to support the proposal of Yamal sent to the Ministry of agriculture to supplement the methodology with these positions. This issue is important not only for Yamal, but also for other reindeer-herding regions.
Mazharov also spoke about grant and other types of support being provided for farmers in the region.
