This year Atomflot is 60 years old, and in honor of the anniversary the thematic voyage to the North Pole was organized. On the board of the nuclear-powered icebreaker “50 Let Pobedy” 124 people, including 68 talented children from the whole country, from Yekaterinburg to Murmansk, went to the top of the world. Anastasia Filippova, a journalist and a columnist for the newspaper of the state corporation “Strana Rosatom” was lucky to go to the voyage.
According to her, on the 17th of August the nuclear-powered icebreaker came to the desirable 90 degrees of the northern latitude. The group managed to reach the ice just 5 kilometers away from the North Pole. Puddles were the first thing that caught her eye, the journalist says. It turns out that puddles are only in August, the rest of the time everything is covered with ice.
“Our journey lasted 10 days. During this time I managed to record dozens of interviews, to meet a lot of wonderful people, to enjoy the incredible beauty of the Arctic, which I will see in my dreams, to go around the entire icebreaker, from the reactor compartment to the captain’s bridge and so on. Descending from the ship to the ice at the top of the planet was memorable in itself. But still swimming in the Arctic Ocean was the high point for me”, Anastasia told a correspondent of the news agency “Sever-Press”.
“The temperature of water is 2C degrees below zero. Putting my hand in the ice-hole, I first decided not to go. But fifteen minutes later I changed my mind: when would I get the chance? The safety rope is necessarily attached to swimming people, doctors are on duty nearby. We descended to water on the stairs, it was cold, fingers became numb, but at this moment I felt especially vividly. It would be possible to swim to the side of the icebreaker, but the way was blocked with the ice floe. I got out and ran to warm up in the sauna – simply everything is on the nuclear-powered icebreaker. And then again — back on the ice! This adventure is definitely the best thing that could happen to me this year”, Anastasia Filippova said.
She underlines that the tour to the North Pole costs 30 thousand dollars, that is 2 million rubles, and not everyone can afford it.
“I was really lucky not only because it is an amazing adventure, but also because the cost of such tour starts from 30 thousand dollars”, said the girl.
