By the results of the third quarter of this year 15 tanker consignments of LNG manufactured at the project “Yamal LNG” were sent to countries of the Asia-Pacific Region directly through the Northern Sea Route in the eastern direction. This accounted for about 25% of all LNG consignments shipped from the project during a quarter.
By the end of 2019 it is planned 4 times to increase the amount of deliveries along the Northern Sea Route to the Asian market in comparison to last year. The information was given to the news agency “Sever-Press” in the press center of “NOVATEK”.
Now the project “Yamal LNG” is supported with the fleet of 13 Arc7 ice-class tankers together with lower ice-class gas carriers purposed for LNG transportation. Till the end of the year it is expected that all 15 arctic tankers will be input to operation, what will allow increasing the number of direct LNG deliveries to the east through the Northern Sea Route.
“The increase in amounts of deliveries along the Northern Sea Route confirms the priority of markets of countries of the Asian-Pacific Region as a strategic direction for future LNG deliveries of NOVATEK”, said Lev Feodosyev, the first deputy chairman of the Board of NOVATEK. “Further development of navigation along the Northern Sea Route and construction of LNG transshipment complexes in Kamchatka and Murmansk will allow optimizing the company’s logistics chain”.
The company NOVATEK is the largest independent producer of natural gas in Russia. In 2017 the company entered the international gas market due to the successful launch of the project “Yamal LNG”. Extractive fields and license areas of NOVATEK are located mainly in Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug.
