Two “green” tankers of “Sovcomflot” “Lomonosov Prospect” and “Mendeleev Prospect” operating on liquefied natural gas recently departed from the port of Primorsk to China along the Northern Sea Route after completion of cargo operations. The total amount of oil being transported in the two tankers is about 200 thousand tonnes.
The tankers powered by LNG have been loaded in the port of Primorsk since 2018, as Novorossiysk Commercial Sea Port Group informs. Thus, the lead vessel of the “green” series — “Gagarin Prospect” — successfully fulfilled the first loading of an export consignment of Russian oil in the port of Primorsk in October of 2018.
The tankers of the largest Russian shipping company set the new standard for environmental safety of navigation. Use of LNG fuel reduces sulfur and soot oxide emissions by up to 100%, nitrogen oxide emissions — by 76% and carbon dioxide emissions — by 27% in comparison to ships using standard heavy fuel.
Since 2018 in total 17 ship calls have been made to the port of Primorsk by tankers operating on liquefied natural gas. The total loaded tonnage of oil made more than 1 million 700 thousand tonnes.
