In October “Gazprom” extracted the first milliard cubic meters of natural gas from Turonian gas deposit in the Yuzhno-Russkoye oil, gas, condensate field in Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. The project for industrial production of hard-to-recover Turonian gas in the field is the only one in Russia.
The total reserves of Turonian gas deposit make more than 300 milliard cubic meters. The first experimental well was input to pilot operation in December of 2011, as the service for public relations and communication with mass media of “Severneftegazprom” reports. Currently, extraction of Turonian gas in the Yuzhno-Russkoye field is fulfilled from 3 wells, other 10 wells are at the stage of commissioning. At the end of this year it is planned to input to operation 14 exploitation wells. According to the project documentation, 100 wells will be built by 2023, and the maximum annual production from the Turonian deposit will make about 9 milliard and 300 million cubic meters of gas.
The company “Severneftegazprom” is one of the main extracting enterprises that belong to Gazprom Group. Wintershall holding GmbH (Germany) and OMV Exploration and Production GmbH (Austria) are also the company’s shareholders. Development and arrangement of one of the Russia’s largest oil, gas, condensate field — the Yuzhno-Russkoye — is the key project of “Severneftegazprom”.
The reserves of Turonian gas, which contains about 99% methane and has no heavy impurities, are located at the depth of about 800-850 meters. Specifics of the deposits are in heterogeneity and variability in lithological composition, as well as in low permeability of reservoirs.
