On the 18th of October Vyborg Shipyard will host the solemn ceremony of handing over the port diesel-electric icebreaker “Ob” of the Aker ARC 124 project to the customer — “Atomflot”. This information was given in the press center of the shipyard.
The port icebreaker with the capacity 12 Megawatt with the innovative propulsion system will provide support of tankers carrying liquefied natural gas in the approach channel and waters of the port of Sabetta from the plant “Yamal LNG”. The innovative propulsion system consisting of four steerable thrusters with the capacity 3 Megawatt each is the main feature of the vessel. The Azipod thrusters by the Swedish ABB Group are located in pairs in the bow and the stern of the vessel, what provides it with maximum maneuverability in the ice.
Also the United Shipbuilding Corporation expects the customer to make a decision on construction of the port icebreaker “Ob-2” by the end of this year, as RIA “Novosti” reports. Vyborg Shipyard received a set of necessary documents for the vessel and conducted the significant amount of preliminary studies and negotiations with all key suppliers and design organizations.
