The new network of hydro-meteorological stations for ensuring ship safety and more accurate forecasts will appear in 2020 on the Northern Sea Route. In the future it will be extended. This information was given to journalists by the head of Roshydromet Igor Shumakov.
“The new network of hydro-meteorological stations will appear along the entire Northern Sea Route from Vladivostok to Murmansk. It will ensure safety of all vessels. I think that dozens of weather stations will be installed in 2020, and then the density of the state observation network will increase on the Northern Sea Route”, Shumakov said.
He specifies that now the quality of forecasts on the Northern Sea Route meets world standards, however, in order to improve these forecasts, it is necessary to increase the density of the state observation network. It is planned to install small automatic and semi-automatic stations, as TASS reports. According to the head of Roshydromet, the process on extension of the network of stations will take several years.
