Information explosions of prehistory. A new issue of the collection “Arctic Archeology” was published

The sixth collection “Arkheologiya Arktiki” (Arctic Archeology) was published. It includes articles by scientists from the USA, Canada, Sweden, research institutes and universities of Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Syktyvkar, Petrozavodsk, Petropavlovsk-Kamchtsky and Salekhard.
Topics of human exploration of the Arctic region in the Paleolithic era, including the pioneering article by American scientists on opportunities of fishing in the Paleolithic era, were raised on pages of the collection. Questions about information explosions of prehistory, development of transport routes in the Middle Ages were asked for the first time. The chapter “Archaeological news” presents the results of studies of monuments and artifacts in Bolshezemelskaya tundra, Yamal and the Lower Ob region. A separate article is dedicated to interdisciplinary studies of osteological remains of dogs found in the cultural layer of the sacred production center Ust-Poluy located within Salekhard, as the department of external relations of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug informs.
The monograph “The north of Western Siberia in the Iron Age: traditions and mobility” is published in the appendix to the collection “Arkheologiya Arktiki”. Its author, candidate of historical sciences, the head of the sector of archaeology and history of the scientific center for study of the Arctic Natalia Fyodorova examines ancient history of the region, traditions and economic adaptations of population through the prism of cultural and trade relations with near and far neighbors, how these communications developed in the medieval period and to what they lead finally.
“Arkheologiya Arktiki” is a scientific brand of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. The collection with the same title is published by the scientific center for study of the Arctic since 2012 as a result of work of the long-term regional targeted program “Development of scientific activity in the sphere of archeology” within the state program “Development of scientific, scientific-technical and innovative activity in 2014 — 2020”. Russian and foreign scientists are the authors of articles: archaeologists, ethnologists, cultural anthropologists and specialists working with archaeological materials by methods of natural sciences. The publication is aimed not only at scientists, but also all those people, who are interested in history of human exploration of the Arctic region.
