The head of Yamal Railway Company gave a forecast on construction of the lines Nadym — Salekhard and Bovanenkovo — Sabetta

Construction of the railroad line from Bovanenkovo to Sabetta will be started simultaneously with construction of the final section of the Northern Latitudinal Railway, to be more exact, the railroad line between Nadym and Salekhard. These two projects are complementary and have a general goal — to strengthen transport and economic ties between the eastern and western parts of the region. They are also called to provide easier access to resource base of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug for the main part of Russia.
The information was given during the speech at the VII international forum and exhibition “Yamal Neftegaz” in Noviy Urengoy by the director general of Yamal Railway Company Yakob Kraft. He also notes that now stages of designing of the railroad lines were successfully completed in his own company and in Gazprom responsible for the line Bovanenkovo — Sabetta. Only a political decision is required to start both constructions.
“In 2005 at the State Council, which was held in Chelyabinsk, the first instruction was given on these objects — on the Northern Latitudinal Railway, as it is called now, on the railroad line along the eastern slope of the Urals and completion of building of the line Obskaya-Bovanenkovo (at that time it was not yet completed). That time the first instruction was given to be busy with this work actively. But you see how much time has passed since then. And after all, tough resolutions have already been submitted for three times to ensure that these projects, primarily the Northern Latitudinal Railway, would be developed. They are the most important, as they give a new impulse to development of transport and economic ties. It seems to me that as soon as active construction of the Northern Latitudinal Railway begins, then development of the line Bovanenkovo — Sabetta will also be started. Because the project part is ready, and decisions are necessary. Everyone is waiting for the first ribbon to be cut”, said Yakob Kraft.
As it should be reminded, the Northern Latitudinal Railway is a railroad line with the length 707 kilometers being constructed in Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug on the route Obskaya- Salekhard-Nadym-Noviy Urengoy-Korotchayevo. This railroad line should connect the western and eastern parts of the Autonomous Okrug, the Northern Railway with the Sverdlovsk Railway. Yamal Railway Company is the operator of the transport route.
The length of the line Obskaya — Bovanenkovo is 525 kilometers. It is an important element of the megaproject “Yamal”. It provides year-round delivery of equipment, building materials and personnel to extractive fields of the Yamal Peninsula. In the future it is planned to continue the railroad line from Bovanenkovo to the settlement Sabetta, where the plant on liquefying of natural gas is located. It is the Russia’s largest plant by its capacity in extraction, processing and production.
“With consideration that Yamal is the largest diamond in the crown of Russian statehood (economists estimate this territory on its potential and wealth in over seven trillion dollars), there is a need to connect the east with the west, thereby improving transport and economic ties of the region. The fact that Gazprom built a way to Bovanenkovo and Karskaya now gives the opportunity to bring the railroad line directly to Sabetta. The bridge across the Ob River, a very large and complex structure, and the bridge across the Nadym River are the barrier structures. Therefore, these objects will be implemented first of all. It will be very difficult to construct the linear part without them”, as Yakob Kraft underlined.
