The Reindeer Herder’s Day and “Yamal Stroganina” were included in the TOP 200 best events of the year

The national calendar of events EventsInRussia.com identified “Best events of 2020”. The Yamal ethnic holiday “The Reindeer Herder’s Day” and the gastronomic festival-contest “Yamal Stroganina 2020” were included in the TOP 200 most interesting events in Russia from different parts of the country, which were awarded with the title “National event of the year”. (The note: stroganina is an ethnic dish – frozen fish or venison cut thin slices).

The national calendar of events EventsInRussia.com is a federal project on the best tourist events in Russia. This year 1800 applications from 70 regions of Russia were submitted for the status “Best event of the year”.

Every year the TOP 200 best events are selected on results of work of the expert commission. These are gastronomic festivals and sports competitions, military, historical reconstructions and ethnic holidays that demonstrate unique features of their region.

“The projects presented in the TOP received the status of “national”, as they are the most significant events that tourists not only from all over Russia, but also from near and far foreign countries seek to visit”, as it is informed on EventsInRussia.com.

“Two events of Yamal received the status “National event of the year”. The Reindeer Herder’s Day is the most long-awaited spring holiday in Yamal. Tourists, photographers and journalists from different parts of the world seek to visit it. This holiday is always held before migration of reindeer herders from winter pastures to the north of the region, towards the Kara Sea. The Reindeer Herder’s Day is bright and spectacular: races of reindeer sleighs, competitions in ethnic sports, delicious treats of northern fish, meat and berries and acquaintance with culture and customs of indigenous peoples of the North. If the Reindeer Herder’s Day is rooted in ancient times, the festival-contest “Yamal Stroganina” is a young event: in 2020 the delicious holiday will be held for the third time. The festival program is also rich: contests in cutting fish and meat thin slices, ethnic master classes, the New Year’s Day Fair, riding reindeer sleighs and many other activities. The northern delicacy, which melts in the mouth even in the cold, is loved not only by residents of Yamal, but also by guests of the region”, said Nayil Khairullin, the director of the department of youth policy and tourism of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug.
