When is your Reindeer Herder’s Day? The holiday dates were defined in Yamal

The dates of conducting of the Reindeer Herder’s Day in municipalities became known in Yamal. One of the most important ethnic nomadic holidays traditionally will begin on the trading station Kar-Nat, Purovskiy district on the 21st of February and will end in the northern Seyakha, Yamalskiy district on the 18th of April. The competitions of reindeer herders for the Cup of the Governor of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug will be held in Nadym on the 29th of February. The Reindeer Herder’s Day will be celebrated in the settlement Kharampur, Purovskiy district on the 13th of March, and in the town Tarko-Salye and the settlement Ratta, Krasnoselkoup district -on the 14th of March. On the 21st of March the holiday will arrive in the settlements Khalyasavey and Samburg in Purovsky district, the settlement Pitlyar in Shuryshkarskiy district and the towns Noviy Urengoy, Muravlenko, Noyabrsk. On the 22nd of March the festival will be held in the settlement Khanymey, Purovskiy district. On the 28th of March it will arrive in Salekhard, the settlements Tazovskiy and Ovgort in Shuryshkarskiy district.
On the 4th of April reindeer herders will gather for the professional holiday in the district centers Aksarka and Yar-Salye, on the 10th of April — in Antipayuta, on the 11th of April – in the settlements Panayevsk and Novy Port in Yamalskiy district, on the 16 of April — in the settlement Gyda, Tazovskiy district.
A two-day Reindeer Herder’s Day will be held in Antipayuta, Noviy Urengoy, Tazovskiy, Gyda, Nadym, Yar-Salye and the Kar-Nat trading station.
Traditionally, the Reindeer Herder’s Day will host the contest programs “Best women’s narta”, “Best men’s narta”, “Best baby cradle”, contests of men’s, women’s and children’s ethnic clothes, competitions in ethnic sports, reindeer sleighs races and riding, programs with games for children and concerts. (The note: “narta” is a nomadic sleigh).
