The Russian Greco-Roman wrestling championship ended in Novosibirsk. More than 450 strongest wrestlers from 50 regions participated in the competitions. Yamal was represented by 11 athletes-instructors of the Yamal Olympic training center. 4 of them became prizewinners.
The Olympic champion Davit Chakvetadze defended the status of Russia’s strongest wrestler in the weight category 87 kg. According to him, the pre-Olympic championship of Russia was very difficult.
“I approached it in not the form I should have, I was ill a lot before the competitions. I managed to win only due to my character”, the athlete said.
Davit estimated his readiness at less than 50%. The license for the 2020 Olympic Games in this weight class has not yet been determined, but winning the victory in the championship certainly gives him an advantage. Oleg Zoina is a coach of the Olympic champion.
A young athlete Emin Sefershayev won the silver medal, in the final losing to Vitaliy Kabaloyev. It gives him the opportunity to compete at the world junior championships under 23 years old. Dmitry Dzhioyev and Azamat Akhmedov added two more bronze awards to the team of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. All the winners train under the guidance of Soslan Farniyev.
As it should be noted, the past Russian championship is one of the decisive competitions that define the participants of the Olympic Games.
