The famous Iranian blogger, traveler and photographer Reza Alamdari visited Nadymskiy district. In his blog he wrote that he had visited the reindeer region of the Arctic in one of northern tribes to take pictures. Oleg Storozhev, a well-known photographer from Nadym, told a correspondent of the news agency “Sever-Press” that Reza Alamdari had found him on Instagram and asked if he could have helped him to organize a travel to Nadym.
“Reza Alamdari, a well-known Iranian blogger and traveler, wrote to me on Instagram and said that he wanted to visit Nadym. At first, he planned to stay with us for 4 days, but managed to do his job in 1 day. He visited the reindeer herders’ camp, visited the town Nadym in the evening, and the next day went to Irkutsk, from there to Murmansk. He promised to return to us with his bride. He is 40 years old, not married. He says about our town that it is very small and neat. I taught him to take pictures at night in conditions of the Far North. Now he is preparing a film about China. I promised to sent him my video about Yamal”, said Oleg Storozhev.
Yelena Nerkagi from Nadym was the guide to the ethnic nomadic camp.
“I got a telephone call from our famous photographer Oleg Storozhev, and he asked if I spoke English. I replied that I spoke the language, but the last time I spoke English 4 years ago. He offered to accompany the Iranian traveler to the nomadic camp. First, I had to negotiate with relatives from tundra to take him to their choum (the note: a nomadic dwelling of reindeer herders; it is similar to a tepee) and to allow taking pictures, then I called Oleg and agreed to accompany the Iranian blogger”.
The Iranian traveler arrived in Nadym on Friday. He was welcomed at the airport by Yelena Nerkagi. It turned out that he had pre-booked a place in a hotel on the outskirts of the town.
Reza Alamdari writes on his blog, that the first day of the travel started perfectly. The place he arrived was more like a small town, there was no store, no restaurant, no airline, there were only several usual hotels. He said that he was lucky to meet Yelena, because it was very difficult to get information about such a small town. Yelena suggested him to change the hotel to another.
According to Yelena, she helped the guest to rent an apartment near her house.
Reza Alamdari writes in his blog that it was a nice house, beautiful children and a big cat. While they were having tea with her husband, Yelena found an apartment near their house for two nights. It took 10 minutes to walk to the apartment, and he was cold because of low temperature outside. Except for the cold, he found the town to be beautiful. Everything was white and there was no wind.
The next morning the guests went to the camp by snowmobiles. The Iranian traveler was sitting in a sleigh. He was delighted and exclaimed “super”. The guest saw the camp of reindeer herders, had tea in the choum, saw how to throw a tynzyan (the note: a rope-lasso for catching reindeer) and to catch reindeer. The Iranian blogger took pictures of the choum, reindeer, dogs, snowmobiles and the Nenets family. Yelena Nerkagi was a little confused about the technique of taking pictures. She says that photos of reindeer herders are very good when one takes pictures of people at work, and the Iranian photographer put the whole family in a row, and also asked them to make serious faces, what surprised all the residents of the choum. Saying goodbye at the airport, he assured Yelena that he would come again, but not alone.
