The success of four sportswomen from Purovskiy

Ice skaters from Tarko-Salye successfully participated in the International competitions in short track skating in memory of Yuriy Pavlovsky in Sestroretsk. Among younger girls the sportswomen from Purovskiy district distinguished themselves in the relay race: Daria Istomina, Daria Ilyina, Polina Matveychuk and Veronika Martinovich won the silver of the tournament. The sportswomen represented the district sports school of the Olympic reserve “Avangard”.

The competition program included the championship in combinations and at separate distances for different age groups of athletes. In total 157 sportspeople from Lithuania, Poland, Latvia, the Republic of Belarus, as well as from Russian regions entered the ice arena.

Yuriy Pavlovsky was a prominent organizer of Russian speed skating and short track skating, the honored master of sports and a participant in the Great Patriotic War. He formed the first teams of Russian sportspeople in short track skating, was the head coach of the USSR national team. The competitions in memory of the founder of the Russian short track skating Yuriy Pavlovsky have been held in St. Petersburg since 2014.
