Reindeer herders responded with increase in reindeer fatness to increase in prices for acceptance of meat

About 50 agricultural organizations — large agricultural enterprises, communities of indigenous ethnic minorities of the North, peasant farm holdings, as well as about 100 reindeer-herding families of the private sector participated in the campaign on supply of venison in 2019. In general, they supplied 2 thousand tonnes of venison. The head of the department of agro-industrial complex of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug Andrey Revnivykh told about the results of the campaign on the 5^th of February.

According to him, the slaughtering operations were fulfilled on 11 certified complexes. Two of them were purchased in 2019 under the program “Cooperation” — in the district centers of Shuryshkarskiy and Tazovskiy districts. In 2020 it is planned to deliver one more complex to Purovsky district under the program.

Andrey Revnivykh reminds that, on behalf of the governor, changes were made in providing of state support in terms of increase in income of reindeer herders involved in delivery of reindeer. In 2019 rates for communities and small enterprises were increased within these measures. As a result, the number of reindeer to be delivered increased by 5%. In addition, categorization was increased; it made 77% of meat of the first category and 23% — of the second category. The slaughter weight of a reindeer was increased by 8% up to 36 kilogram per one. Weather conditions that were the most optimal in comparison with previous years contributed to that.

In 2020 it is planned to change the measures of support for reindeer herders again. The price for acceptance of meat on complexes will be increased for all reindeer farms, regardless of whether they are agricultural enterprises, communities or reindeer herders of the private sector. The price for all will be one and the same — 450 rubles per kilogram of meat of the first category and 150 rubles per kilogram of the second category.
