The opening of the project “Forty thousand summers and winters. The long sleep of the baby mammoth Lyuba” will take place in the Museum Complex of Slovtsov in Tyumen on the 20th of February.
Visitors to the exhibition will see the baby mammoth Lyuba from Yamal, which is currently the world’s most unique find of this kind due to its exceptional state of preservation. The body of the most famous mammoth was found in tundra of Yamal in 2007. Having lived no more than 3 months, the baby mammoth had been lying in permafrost near the Yuribey River for tens of thousands of years, till it was found by the reindeer herder Yuriy Khudi. With help of modern equipment researchers from different countries carefully studied the body of the baby mammoth, trying to understand how the ancient giants lived more than 40 thousand years ago.
The exhibition will acquaint to scientific facts and myths about the most iconic animals of the Ice Age. The content of paintings is supplemented with sculptures on the theme of myths, as well as many exhibits from the collection of paleontology of the Tyumen museum and educational association.
According to the information given to a correspondent of the news agency “Sever-Press” in the regional museum, the exhibition project “Forty thousand summers and winters. The long sleep of the baby mammoth Lyuba” is implemented within the national project “Culture”. The exhibition will last till the 19th of April.
