The maternity capital will not be lost in tundra. Nomads believe that they are the luckiest of all

Measures of social support outlined in the governor’s annual report on the state of affairs in Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug are largely relate to representatives of indigenous ethnic minorities of the North. Mikhail Okotetto, the chairman of the Yamal Union of communities drew attention to that aspect.

“First of all, the majority of us have many children”, he said to the news agency “Sever-Press”. –“And according to the report, they occurred to be the luckiest.  Second, “nomadic payments” for us were increased up to 5 thousand rubles (the note: compensational payments for nomadic population). Third, already this year venison is accepted from communities for a new price that more than two times increased, and they responded with improvement of quality of meat. For example, in Seyakha 70 percent of meat was delivered on the first category. It has never happened before. Reindeer herders began to pay more attention to vaccination of reindeer not only from anthrax, but also from other misfortunes that influence on quality of meat. It will be a completely different product”.

Also, Mikhail Okotetto positively evaluated increase in scholarships for children from indigenous ethnic minorities of the North, who study well, and assured that the maternity capital issued to tundra dwellers would not be lost. It will be used to buy housing for children, who will study and find job in towns and settlements. Especially since housing is being built now, in Yamalskiy district there are very big plans for that.
