Yamal provides unique directions for study of the Arctic

The Day of Russian science established by the decree of the President of the Russian Federation in 1999 is marked every year on the 8^th of February. Exactly on this day in 1724 the Academy of sciences was founded in Russia by the decree of the governmental Senate on the order of Peter I. In 1925 it was renamed to the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, and in 1991 — the Russian Academy of Sciences. As it is said in the presidential decree, the holiday was established with consideration of the outstanding role of Russian science in development of the state and society, with observation of historical traditions and in commemoration of the 275^th anniversary since foundation of the Academy of Sciences in Russia.

The governor of Yamal Dmitry Artyukhov congratulated representatives of the scientific community of the Autonomous Okrug on their professional holiday.  

“Yamal historically provided unique directions for study of the Arctic. The best scientific forces know our region, they willingly arrive here to go to expeditions and help us in solving of the large-scale task — ensuring Russia’s leadership in high latitudes. Significant industrial projects will be implemented in Yamal in the coming years. And there is no doubt that the technological foundation for these large-scale projects will be based on the most advanced scientific achievements. Including in the sphere of nature protection, and in study of the state of permafrost”, the head of the region said in his congratulation.

Dmitry Artyukhov thanked all the researchers for their significant contribution to socioeconomic development of Yamal and wished them for health, wellbeing and further success.
