The Museum of the Great Patriotic War (the Victory Museum) responded to the request of the Union of reindeer herders of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug to organize the exhibition dedicated to the memory of residents of Yamal, who participated in the Great Patriotic War. The exposition opens heroic pages of the military history of the Autonomous Okrug, in its center there is a role and history of participation of reindeer-transport battalions, the so-called Northern Cavalry. The Museum provides representatives of the public organization with the opportunity to hold the commemorative event on the 2nd-5th of April of 2020 at the open area of the military equipment of the Victory Museum. This information was given to the news agency “Sever-Press” by the executive director of the Union of reindeer herders of Yamal Timur Akchurin.
“We are very happy that we have the opportunity to hold such significant event that will allow us to show and tell residents and guests of the Russian capital about the heroes-northerners of those years and their glorious heroic deeds on battlefields and home front, to tell about life, culture and traditions of indigenous peoples of the North, especially before the 75th anniversary of the Victory Day. Perhaps the exhibition will be interregional — we were supported by public figures from Nenets Autonomous Okrug, where the day of remembrance of participants in military reindeer-transport battalions and reindeer during the Great Patriotic War was enshrined at the legislative level”, Timur Akchurin said.
The Central Museum of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 (abbreviated as the Victory Museum) is a federal state institution of culture of the Russian Federation, the main object of the Victory Park on Poklonnaya Gora in Moscow.
Today the Victory Museum is one of the leading military-historical museums in the world, a national scientific-historical and organizational-methodological center for topics of the Second World War and the Great Patriotic War. The Museum is a unique memorial complex called to perpetuate the memory of heroism and courage shown by Soviet soldiers during the Great Patriotic War. The Museum conducts scientific, cultural and educational work, organizes events for patriotic education of young people — schoolchildren and students and also provides information assistance to visitors.
