The Yamal hundred is going to Canada for the jubilee medals

Sportspeople from Yamal will represent Russia at the Arctic Winter Games, which will be held in Canada from the 15^th to the 21^st of March. About 100 people will participate in the 25^th jubilee games. They will compete in snowshoeing, mini-football, table tennis, arctic all-around, biathlon on skis, archery, figure skating and other sports.

The Arctic Winter Games are competitions that assist to development of sport and healthy lifestyle, strengthen friendship between the participating countries. The games have been held every two years since 1970 with participants from Russia, Canada, the USA, Greenland, Finland, Sweden, and Norway. The team of Yamal has represented Russia at the games since 2004. Over 15 years the team of Yamal has won about 600 medals: 275 golden, 218 silver and 94 bronze.

By the way, usually the Arctic Winter Games are held in Canada and the United States. In 2014 Yamal made a suggestion to hold the Arctic Winter Games in Salekhard. This spring the delegation of the International Committee of the games scheduled the visit to the capital of Yamal. A decision on the opportunity to include the region in the competition schedule no earlier than 2026 will be made by its results.
