For the first time in Russia “Gazprom Neft” applied the unique technology to increase oil flow in Achimov deposits — hybrid multistage hydraulic fracturing. The trials were conducted in Vyngaiakhinskoye field of “Gazpromneft-Noyabrskneftegaz” in Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. According to the results of the performed operations, the initial production rate in one of wells made 300 tonnes per day, what is 3 times higher than the expected parameters.
In the future it is also planned to use the technology in Vyngapurovskoye, Yety-Purovskoye, Karamovskoye and other fields of the company, where there are Achimov reserves. It will allow receiving additional 28 million tonnes of oil, including 7 million tonnes till 2025, as the press center of “Gazprom Neft” informs.
Combinations of technological fluids with different properties are used at hybrid multistage hydraulic fracturing. Its advantage over standard hydraulic fracturing is in wider coverage of a layer due to elongation of fractures and formation of a large network of micro-fractures around them resembling a cobweb. This effect is achieved through change of amounts, composition of the injected fluid and proppant, as well as increase in the speed of their injection.
The eight-stage hydraulic fracturing process was conducted in Vyngaiakhinskoye field. A new hydraulic fracturing fluid that significantly increases the efficiency of hydraulic fracturing was tested within it. According to the results of the performed operations, the initial production rate in one of wells was three times higher than the expected parameters.
The task of the trials is to test the hypothesis on formation of a network of fractures in a layer and effectiveness of the technology. In the process of cameral work specialists of “Gazpromneft-GEO”, the Science and Technology Center, “Gazpromneft-Noyabrskneftegaz” and MIPT Center for Engineering and Technology developed the special design of hydraulic fracturing, which will allow receiving increase in extraction in geological conditions of Vyngaiakhinskoye field. According to the results of the operations, the technical possibility of creation of fractures with the length 3-5 times longer than standard ones — more than 500 meters was confirmed, as well as no formation of a network of fractures, as in shale projects.
The first test results, according to the specialists, can significantly change usual ideas about optimal parameters of the system of development of the Achimov Formation and will allow taking a big step towards reduction of capital expenditures per tonne of oil being extracted.
“Resources of the Achimov Formation in Noyabrsk region alone make about 1 milliard tonnes of oil. These are huge reserves, extraction of which under available methods is limited with the complex geological structure of layers. The permeability of reservoirs in Vyngaiakhinskoye field is quite low even for the traditionally low-permeable Achimov deposits — 0.4 mD (millidarcies). We expect that new technologies, some of which have already been successfully tested in the company’s fields, will open access to oil from the Achimov Formation”, said Yuriy Masalkin, the director of the directorate of “Gazprom Neft” for geological prospecting and resource base development.

This digital tool is designed specifically for working with difficult reserves and helps our team of engineers to create the unique design of hydraulic fracturing for each field. The obtained results confirm the effectiveness of our technological solutions”, said Aleksey Vashkevich, the director of the directorate of “Gazprom Neft” for technological development.
