What if the world’s masterpieces were created in Yamal? Mimi Ilnitskaya, an artist from Labytnangi, a fashion designer of the brand “Poluostrov” (Peninsula) popular in Yamal, thought about this issue. She came to Yamal, being already a well-known artist in Kazakhstan, whose ideas inspired marketers of Alpen gold, Coca-Cola, Nescafe, Vogue and other well-known brands. Mimi says that famous artists would fall in love with the authentic culture of the North. According to her, Yamal amazed her and continues amazing today — it is simply impossible not to fall in love with it. If Leonardo da Vinci had lived in Yamal, “The Vitruvian Man” would have put on a malitsa (an ethnic man’s fur coat).
“No matter how perfect a person’s proportions are, they need a malitsa”, says Mimi Ilnitskaya.
Mimi is not only an artist, the creator of the brand “Peninsula”. She is also a mother of two children and is now on maternity leave.
“Inspiration is more often a post-reaction to events or experienced emotions. Yamal has amazed me very much since my first arrival in “the edge of the earth” and continues amazing already during 4 years. I experienced a lot of new events in Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, managed to give birth to a child during this time, and now I am raising two in the North. But I don’t have enough professional employment being on the maternity leave. By education I am an advertiser, and, being in Yamal, I found something for myself to do — to advertise our region. Using what I know — and I know how to draw”, said Mimi to a correspondent of the news agency “Sever-Press”.
Thus, this is the first part of the updated masterpieces.
Rene Magritte, “The Son of Man” — if Magritte decided to decorate the son of humanity with an apple, then in the North the cloudberry is the key!
Leonardo Da Vinci, “Mona Lisa” or “The Gioconda”. Da Vinci made a breakthrough in the world of painting – he began to paint portraits against landscapes in an interesting technique. But if one was painting a portrait of the Gioconda in the North, then mammoths would be the decoration of this picture.
Viktor Vasnetsov, “Alyonushka”. If Vasnetsov painted his picture in Yamal, then there would be an ethnic dwelling of nomads — a choum, in order Alyonushka would get warm and have hot tea, because northerners are very hospitable.
Kuzma Petrov-Vodkin, “Bathing of the Red Horse”. It is impossible to wash a horse in a river in the North, but it is the best thing for a deer to splash in the Ob River.
Valentin Serov, “Girl with peaches”. But in the North all girls would prefer stroganina (cut frozen fish), delicious and useful. And peaches are delicious on “the big land”, says Mimi Ilnitskaya.
Edvard Munch, “The Scream” (Yamal edition 2020). According to Mimi, her followers suggest that on the portrait the main character should scream because of unbearable summer invasion of mosquitoes, midges and horseflies.
Sandro Botticelli, “The Birth of Venus”. If Venus was born on the bank of the Ob River, she would quickly be wrapped in a warm northern yagushka (an ethnic woman’s fur coat).
“The Persistence of Memory” by Salvador Dali. In the vision of Mimi in the picture by the famous artist, if he was in Yamal, our powerful nuclear-powered icebreaker would surely break into the dreams of the Spanish genius.
Fyodor Reshetnikov, “Low Marks Again”. This family is not surprised with low marks, and northerners are not surprised with mammoths.
A portrait of a writer from Yamal Leonid Laptsuy was inspired by Andy Warhol’s “Marilyn Monroe”.
