On the Defender of the Fatherland Day, the 23rd of February, Salekhard congratulated Nikolay Shakurov, the veteran of the Great Patriotic War. Dozens of people gathered at the veteran’s house. They sang, danced and performed songs of the war years. Nikolay Shakurov watched the parade from the window. However, eventually he went out of the house and took the parade in person! Nikolay Shakurov was surrounded by young people. He told the poem and thanked everyone for the bright congratulations.
Nikolay Timofeevich Shakurov was born in the village of Kazanka in Sorokinsky district of Tyumen Oblast. On the 15th of October of 1943 at the age of 17 years old he was drafted into the Soviet Army, passed basic military training as a young soldier and went to the battlefront. He served in the 618th regiment of the 315th Smolensk division of the 5th army in Belarus. He first saw fire in the battle of Orsha. He participated in the Operation Bagration to liberate Belarus. For his combat service the veteran was awarded with the order of the Great Patriotic War of the II degree, the medals “For Courage”, “For the Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War 1941–1945”. He was also awarded with the jubilee medal “For Valiant Labor”, the medal “For Distinguished Labor”, the badge “The winner of the socialist competition” and the medal “The veteran of labor”.
