The company “Messoyakhaneftegaz” started a new stage of seismic research related to fulfillment of potential of Achimov reserves in the Messoyakha group of fields. The goal of 3D seismic survey is to clarify boundaries of distribution of prospective Achimov strata, reserves of which in Messoyakha are estimated at 35 million tonnes of oil, and geological resources — at 111 million tonnes.
Search for oil-saturated areas on the territory of East and West Messoyakha is conducted around the clock by 170 specialists in topogeodesic and seismic surveys. At their disposal they have 54 units of heavy tracked vehicles that can work in difficult climate and landscape conditions of the northernmost oil, gas, condensate field being developed on Russian land. The specialized multi-tonne machines are equipped with equipment for vibration effect on land surface, which provides research of subsurface structure with use of seismic waves.
The principle of the seismic method is based on properties of the earth’s crust to reflect acoustic waves from boundaries of geological layers; the waves are distributed along a section up to 6 thousand meters depth. When they return to the surface, they are recorded and transmitted to the seismic station, where the field data are collected and pass through initial processing. The time of reflection of waves and their properties allow experts to judge about the depth of occurrence and the shape of targeted geological boundaries. The information was given to the news agency “Sever-Press” in the corporate communications department of “Messoyakhaneftegaz”.
Last year the amount of 3D seismic surveys in Messoyakha was about 200 square kilometers. This year it will be 2.5 times larger and will cover mainly the territory of the West-Messoyakhskoye field. The maximum research performance is 600 physical observations per day. Interpretation of 3D seismic data will be available by early 2021.
“The task of the large-scale program on seismic survey for 2019-2020 is to clarify boundaries of distribution of Achimov-type traps. We have high expectations for these studies. Obtaining of new geological information for two license areas at once — eastern and western — will allow the asset fully to see potential of Achimov deposits of Messoyakha, effectively to enter exploration drilling and further to involve considerable reserves of deep deposits of the arctic field in development”, Nikolay Glushchenko, the chief geologist of “Messoyakhaneftegaz” explained.
It should be noted that Achimov reserves belong to the lower level of the lower Cretaceous deposits located above the Jurassic oil and gas complex. Among geological difficulties there are: a narrow drilling corridor, high temperature in the interval of a shank and limited choice of density of technological fluids in the zone of a productive layer. According to forecasts, the total recoverable oil reserves of the Achimov Formation in Western Siberia make 2 milliard 300 million tonnes. Half of them — about 1 milliard 200 million tonnes — are located in Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug.
The Messoyakha group of fields includes the East-Messoyakhskoye and the West-Messoyakhskoye areas located on the Gydan Peninsula in Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. The project is implemented in conditions of limited access to transport and industrial infrastructure. The licenses for both blocks belong to “Messoyakhaneftegaz”, which is under parity control of “Gazprom Neft” and “Rosneft”.
The command to start operation of the East-Messoyakhskoye field in September 2016 was given by President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin in the mode of the teleconference.
