The dictation in native languages of indigenous peoples of the North, which became traditional, is taking place in all municipalities of Yamal. Selkoup and Komi languages were added to Nenets and Khanty ones this year. Such novelty as preliminary registration was inculcated. 530 people wishing to participate in writing the dictation passed it in the region, 60 of them – in Salekhard. The information was given by the first deputy director of the regional department on affairs of indigenous ethnic minorities of the North in Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug Roman Pikun.
“Last year was announced the International Year of Indigenous Languages by the United Nations Organization. Big attention is paid to them, this is the basis of culture and national identity”, he noted. – “Preservation of languages is very important, it is worth noting that the President, following the results of the Council for interethnic relations at the end of last year, set a number of tasks aimed at this goal. They include change in the system of education of pedagogical personnel, the instruction to regional governments to support students studying in higher educational institutions in specializations that suppose further teaching native languages and culture”.
According to Roman Pikun, a number of measures were prepared in Yamal to preserve native languages. The work is continued with a deputy of the State Duma Grigory Ledkov. At the sitting of the presidential council he put forward his initiatives in terms of studying native languages at the Herzen State Pedagogical University.
“There are young people, who are interested in learning their native languages and teaching them, and our task is to support them so that they would receive scholarships, perhaps, grants, and in the future they would be employed in boarding schools of Yamal”, said the deputy director of the department.
Majority of people were willing to write the dictation in Nenets language within the general dictation held in Yamal Multidisciplinary College and organized by the specialized department and the Public chamber of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. Marina Yar, the editor-in-chief of the regional ethnic newspaper “Nyaryana Ngerm” told a correspondent of the news agency “Sever-Press” what the text she had prepared was about.
“Military topics are always relevant, even if the text was published in 1987. It consists of 180 words; Khabecha Yaungad is its author. The level of language skills of all the participants is very different, last year they wrote the dictation at the good level, I think they will cope now”, said Marina Yar.
