Public activists will try to win a grant for free legal assistance to tundra farmers

The Union of reindeer herders of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug submitted the social project “Legal, accounting consulting and outsourcing for small enterprises of indigenous ethnic minorities of the North and of citizens from among indigenous ethnic minorities of the North in Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug on free-of-charge basis” for the contest of presidential grants of the Russian Federation for non-profit organizations.
The project is aimed at development of peasant farm holdings and agricultural cooperatives of indigenous ethnic minorities of the North in Yamal and protection of their interests in courts of various instances of Russia, including in languages of indigenous peoples of the North, Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. The information was given to a correspondent of the news agency “Sever-Press” by the executive director of the Union of reindeer herders of Yamal Timur Akchurin.
As he explains, becoming a consumer of consulting and outsourcing services, small enterprises will be able to focus on the main goals and objectives, for which they were created. They include protection of the native environment, preservation and development of traditional branches of indigenous ethnic minorities of the North in Yamal, crafts and culture. And implementation of the project will allow citizens from among indigenous peoples to receive timely qualified legal assistance and legal support in courts.
“Rendering of accounting and legal outsourcing services by the Union of reindeer herders of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug and the regional division of the All-Russian Council of Local Government will provide full statistical reports of activity of small enterprises, will protect nomadic population from questionable financial transactions, will give a new impulse to development of peasant farm holdings and agricultural cooperatives. Assistance will also include preparation of various documents to receive fish quotas, fishing areas, subsidies and other various documents for peasant farm holdings. It will give citizens confidence in forming of small enterprises and will exclude risks of liquidation based on incorrect reporting. And most importantly, the project will allow removing the load from nomads on making of various tax, accounting and statistical reports. Thus, they can safely be busy with their business”, Timur Akchurin said.
According to him, within the project experienced practicing lawyers will provide free legal assistance with regular visits to reindeer-herding camps, fishing camps and ethnic settlements. If they receive a grant, they will be able to help more than 300 citizens and small enterprises of indigenous peoples of the North in Yamal on the free-of-charge basis.
