In Purovsky district specialists of the office on affairs of indigenous ethnic minorities of the North inform and consult tundra-dwellers on all current issues on the daily basis. Nomads can keep in touch with help of quick communication services, as now there is internet and cellular communication in many nomadic camps.
“We communicate with people by phone and video link. Documents are sent to the office by e-mail, and we also use social networks to provide consultative help or inform population”, explained the head of the office Terenty Pyak.
Now, due to the restrictions imposed, work in the office with indigenous residents is conducted in the distance mode, and personal reception of citizens is suspended.
Annually nomads of Purovskiy purchase goods under the regional program “Protection of rights and legitimate interests of indigenous ethnic minorities of the North”. Owing to remoteness of reindeer-herding and fishing camps from the district center, the list of recipients is formed once every six months. The application campaign for 2020 was started in January, but not all nomads had enough time to submit their documents. Also at the beginning of the year applications are accepted to receive quotas for fishing, now it is temporarily suspended. But, according to the office, there is no need to worry; tundra-dwellers will have time to collect documents before autumn. According to the district administration, information and application forms for quotas and goods have already been sent to e-mails of agricultural enterprises and communities of indigenous ethnic minorities of the North.
“If citizens contact us by phone from tundra, we explain to them that it is necessary to restrict visits to mass places, nomadic camps and also guest visits. We recommend to observe all the rules and regulations related to the self-isolation mode”, as it is explained in the office.
