Two promising oil clusters were discovered in Vorgenskoye license area

Within geological exploration in Vorgenskoye license area in Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug the company “Gazpromneft-Noyabrskneftegaz” found two new promising clusters. Their initial geological resources are evaluated at 80 million tonnes of oil equivalent.
Till 2025 specialists of the company will conduct 3D seismic survey and exploratory and appraisal drilling to define resource potential of the area more exactly, as the corporate communications department of the company informs.
Earlier the geochemical survey was performed in Vorgenskoye on the area of 7 thousand square kilometers to evaluate the type of fluids (oil, gas condensate, gas). The obtained results, as well as data of 2D seismic survey, allowed indentifying the area of 1300 square kilometers having potential for more detailed study.
“Today Vorgenskoye area is the largest in the portfolio of assets of “Noyabrskneftegaz”. Defining of contours of oil potential will allow increasing success of exploratory and appraisal drilling and accelerating subsequent development of the territory, what will become an important factor in further development of not only our enterprise, but also the entire oil production in Yamal”, said Alexander Shushakov, the director general of “Gazpromneft-Noyabrskneftegaz”.
Vorgenskoye license area (11 thousand 700 square kilometers) is located in Krasnoselkoup district of Yamal. It is part of the Otdalennaya group of fields of “Gazpromneft-Noyabrskneftegaz” and adjoins to Vorgenskoye field, which has been under development since 2010.
“In Vorgenskoye license area we tested our own set of technologies of areal geochemical survey for the first time in Russia, what allowed defining resource base in the region more precisely. Replicating the experience of use of non-seismic methods and combining them with data of seismic survey will allow the company to increase tempos, quality and to optimize the cost of geological exploration”, said Yuriy Masalkin, the director for geological exploration and development of resource base of “Gazprom Neft”.
Areal geochemical survey is a method estimating concentration of hydrocarbons on the daylight surface. It is believed that hydrocarbon molecules located at the depth of two to three kilometers are able to migrate and to form geochemical fields. Detection of such molecules allows defining boundaries of oil-bearing territories and assessing phase composition of hydrocarbons that fill deposits.
