On the 9th of May the governor of Yamal Dmitry Artyukhov participated in the celebration of the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. This year the format of events in the region has been changed: most of them are being held online, and people’s participation has been reduced as much as possible.
In the video message the governor congratulated veterans and all residents of the region on Victory Day.
“I congratulate all our veterans and wish each of you good health, care and attention of your relatives. Nothing compares to the sense of pride and gratitude that every citizen of Yamal feels to you. No matter how much time has passed since that great day, we remember everything and are forever grateful to our veterans, who gave us the future. My congratulations on Victory Day, dear residents of Yamal”, said Dmitry Artyukhov.
The head of the region came to congratulate Nikolay Timofeyevich Shakurov, a veteran of the Great Patriotic War, a participant in operation “Bagration” on liberation of Belarus and the Baltic countries. A stage was set up in front of the veteran’s house. He received congratulations from the window of his apartment.
“Dear Nikolay Timofeyevich, I sincerely congratulate You on the main great holiday — the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. It is the great honor for us to congratulate You personally. Your whole life is one great heroic deed, from the battlefront to the post-war work, to the work that You perform today with the younger generation. I sincerely bow to you. You are the pride of the capital of the region and the whole Yamal. I want to wish You good health”, the governor said.
Nikolay Shakurov was called to the battlefront from Tyumen Oblast in 1943. After receiving severe shrapnel wound he was demobilized. He was awarded with the Order of the Patriotic War of the 2nd degree, the Medal for Bravery and the Medal “For the Victory Over Germany in the Great Patriotic War 1941–1945”. After the war he served in the Salekhard militsiya (police forces in the Soviet Union). He performed social work.
“Thank you for the holiday for me. Dear countrymen, I congratulate you on the Great Victory. I wish you health, good luck and peaceful sky”, said Nikolay Shakurov.
Also on this day the head of the region laid flowers at the Eternal Flame and the monument to the Unknown Soldier in Victory Park and observed the Minute of Silence in memory of those people, who had died in battles.
