Allocation of regional subsidies for the slaughter campaign-2020 to enterprises supplying reindeer meat was started in Yamal. For the present day about 30% of the planned funds have been allocated to the recipients according to their requests. The aim of the work is in so that suppliers would be able already now to conclude contracts on deliveries and to allocate advance payments on them to reindeer-herding farms that plan to hand over animals for slaughter.
According to the instruction by the governor of Yamal Dmitry Artyukhov, starting this year, a new mechanism of state support for the branch is being implemented in the region, at that, all reindeer-herding farms, regardless of the form of property, will receive 450 rubles per kilogram of the first-category reindeer meat. The increase in comparison to the previous rates is more than twice. According to the department of agro-industrial complex of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, regional financing is planned with the expectation that at least 80% of the meat handed over for slaughter should be of the first category, what means, of the highest quality.
“The increase in purchasing prices for reindeer meat in 2020 will definitely lead to the increase in income of private reindeer herders and will provide our processing capacities with higher-quality meat. At the same time, the measure will not have direct influence on the price for the product for buyers”, said Alexander Zemskikh, the deputy director of the regional department of agro-industrial complex.
Reindeer calving is currently taking place in Yamal. According to the department of agro-industrial complex, about 10 thousand calves have already been born in the region. After the calving is completed – at the end of June – specialists of the veterinary service of the region will start summer vaccination of reindeer. In parallel, animals will be tagged, including with electronic tags. This is an innovation for Yamal.
“This year we are purchasing 110 thousand electronic tags. Their function is the same as that of ordinary ones — accounting of reindeer. But in the “digital” format it will be more effective, since it will allow tracking the entire history of an animal in the unified information system”, commented Stanislav Zakrevsky, the first deputy head of the veterinary service of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug.
Tagging is a free procedure for reindeer herders. Along with vaccination it is a necessary condition for the turnover of safe products of reindeer husbandry. A tag contains information about an owner, a gender and age group of a reindeer, as well as information about veterinary and preventive measures taken in relations to it. Availability of the tag is an obligatory condition for handing over reindeer meat to the slaughter complex.
