The interregional public ecological and sociological organization “Green Arctic” completed the educational program on comprehensive training in ecology and volunteer activity in conditions of the Far North. 49 volunteers were selected preliminary by the results of the training for participation in the expedition to Vilkitsky Island this July, as it is informed in the department of external relations of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. The precise number and staff of the volunteers and also terms of conducting of the expedition will be defined in dependence on development of the epidemiologic situation in Yamal and in the country in general.
116 people passed the educational program of ecological volunteers: 59 young men and 57 young women. Geography of the participants is wide enough – 8 foreign countries and 38 Russian cities. The number of 49 volunteers selected by “Green Arctic” for participation in the future expeditions includes representatives from more than 20 regions of the country and also compatriots from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Poland, Israel, Bulgaria and Armenia.
“For a number of reasons the girls will not be able to participate in the expedition on cleaning of Vilkitsky Island. However, we plan to hold other events for them in the region. We will invite them at the end of summer to the ecological forum- practicum “Polar Land” in the settlement Seyakha of Yamalskiy district”, said the chairman of “Green Arctic” Yevgeniy Rozhkovskiy.
In 2019 thirty volunteers from Nadym, Salekhard, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Kazan, Kogalym, Syktyvkar, Tyumen, Lipetsk and other Russian cities, as well as from Moldova, Kazakhstan and Israel participated in the expedition to Vilkitsky island. The volunteers cleared 60 hectares of the island, collected 200 tonnes of garbage and dismantled 20 ramshackle buildings.
