Coronavirus did not break the schedule for the project “Arctic LNG 2”

The overall progress on the project “Arctic LNG 2” is 19%. The information was given at the working meeting of the heads of partner companies of the project. Leonid Mikhelson (NOVATEK), Patrick Pouyanne (Total), Dai Houliang (CNPC), Wang Dongjin (CNOOC), Tatsuo Yasunaga (Mitsui) and Tetsuhiro Hosono (JOGMEC) participated in the video conference. They marked the progress of the project.
Despite the difficulties associated with the global coronavirus pandemic, the participants of the project managed to meet the planned schedule of implementation in all areas. Concreting of the first GBS platform (gravity-based structure) was completed by 37%. Module manufacturers are working at full capacity. Contractors under construction/EPC contracts are fully mobilized, contracts on deliveries are concluded and being executed. 9 production wells have already been drilled in Utrenneye field, and 3 drilling rigs are in operation. According to the press service of NOVATEK, with consideration of the progress the participants are confident in meeting the schedule of the project.
In addition, significant progress has been made in contracting of LNG amounts from the project. The heads of the companies also discussed in detail the current status of external financing of the project and confirmed their focus on ensuring of its attracting in the scheduled time.
“We held the first joint meeting of the heads of “Arctic LNG 2” partner companies in a new format”, said Leonid Mikhelson, the chairman of the board of NOVATEK. – “This is a unique project being implemented with use of an innovative concept on construction of liquefaction lines at the GBS, a logistics scheme with use of year-round navigation along the Northern Sea Route, as well as extensive localization of production of equipment and materials in Russia. All the shareholders are making every effort to implement the project in time”.
NOVATEK is the largest independent producer of natural gas in Russia. In 2017 the company entered the international LNG market due to the successful launch of the project “Yamal LNG”. Extractive fields and license areas of NOVATEK are located primarily in Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug — the world’s largest region of natural gas production, which accounts for about 80% of Russian gas production and approximately 15% of the world’s gas production.
