“Gazprom Neft” received licenses for geological study of subsurface resources in four active fields in Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug: Vyngapurovskoye, Sugmutskoye, Sredne-Iturskoye and Severo-Yangtinskoye. The assets are being developed by “Gazpromneft-Noyabrskneftegaz”, a subsidiary of the company.
The licenses grant the right to search for and appraise hydrocarbon fields in previously unexplored Cretaceous (the Achimov Formation), Jurassic and Paleozoic deposits. According to the preliminary estimates by geologists of “Gazprom Neft”, the total initial geological resources of these formations may exceed 102 million tonnes of oil. The greatest potential is in study of the Achimov Formation in Sugmutskoye and Severo-Yangtinskoye fields, where up to 80 million tonnes of resources can be concentrated. Jurassic deposits in Sredne-Iturskoye and Vyngapurovskoye fields may contain more than 22 million tonnes of oil, according to the corporate communications department of “Gazpromneft-Noyabrskneftegaz”. The licenses are valid until 2027. In the near future the company will approve the program on geological exploration, including seismic exploration, as well as prospecting-appraisal drilling.
“Despite the fact that the fields belong to the mature resource fund, we see their great resource potential. The descent to the underlying geological “storeys”, first of all, the lower Jurassic and Paleozoic, opens up prospects for the company on increase in the resource base, and availability of operating facilities for preparation and transportation of oil increases efficiency of further development of the fields”, said Alexander Shushakov, the director general of “Gazpromneft- Noyabrskneftegaz”.
“Thanks to the existing infrastructure, the company will be able to introduce reserves of hydrocarbons that will be found on the underlying horizons of the fields in the shortest possible time. Obtaining of the licenses on the territory of the operating fields is one of opportunities of the “declarative principle”, which “Gazprom Neft” previously used in Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug and Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug. It is expedient if there is a prospect of spreading of productive hydrocarbon deposits below the boundaries of license areas, where industrial development is already taking place”, explained Yuriy Masalkin, the director for geological exploration and development of the resource base at “Gazprom Neft”.
Achimov deposits belong to the lower part of the Cretaceous system and in the Noyabrsk region lie at the depths from 3000 to 3350 meters. The promising objects are characterized with a complex geological structure – high lateral and vertical heterogeneity, a complex type of saturation and low reliability of its prediction, as well as low reservoir permeability and risks of high reservoir pressure.
Jurassic deposits are mainly of a structural-lithological type. They are characterized with low reservoir properties and high lateral and vertical heterogeneity. Jurassic strata are located at the depth of 2700 to 3500 meters. Paleozoic deposits are the least studied interval of the section; their potential is currently being evaluated. The main interest is represented with fracture zones and carbonate structures. The depth of occurrence is more than 3500 meters.
