Arctic projects took a significant place in activity of Sovcomflot

Start of year-round transportation of crude oil from the Gulf of Ob by high-tech ships of the series “Shturman Albanov” within the project “Noviy Port” is among the most important projects fulfilled by the company “Sovcomflot” last year.

The chairman of the Committee on strategy at the Board of Directors of Sovcomflot Aleksey Klyavin gave this information on the sitting of the board. Also among the important events he marked completion of preparations for ice trials and receiving of the world’s first icebreaking tanker - gas carrier “Christophe de Margerie” into the company’s fleet. The tanker was designed to work on the project “Yamal LNG”. According to Aleksey Klyavin, the Board of Directors is satisfied with work of Sovcomflot last year. The company systematically fulfills its development strategy focused on increasing of participation in long-term oil and gas projects with fixed income. This allows the company successfully to overcome the factor of high volatility of the tanker market and to achieve for positive results in work, as it is reported to IA “Sever-Press” in the press service of Sovcomflot. David Moorhouse, a member of the Board of Directors notes that the company consistently is expanding the fleet owing to high-tech vessels, which were built with consideration of the best international standards in energy saving and environmental protection. In 2016 the company completed development of the project, which foresees the beginning of exploitation of tankers “Aframax” using liquefied natural gas as fuel. As he says, appearing of these large tankers of the new generation on the market, without exaggeration, can be considered the beginning of global transformation of sea industry towards more efficient and environmentally friendly technologies. According to the chairman of the Board of Directors Ilya Klebanov, Sovcomflot actively developed mutually profitable cooperation with Russian and foreign freighters, domestic shipbuilders for development and introduction of effective technical solutions that allow making sea transportation of energy carriers safer for the environment.
