Cargo turnover of the port of Sabetta will increase up to 70 million tons per year

Last year cargo turnover of Russian sea ports for the first time exceeded 600 million tons.

This information was given in the Federal Agency of Marine and River Transport of the Russian Federation. In total during this time port capacities of the country grew on 22 million and 500 thousand tons, at that the amount of transshipment of dry cargoes made more than 280 million tons, liquid cargoes – 330 million tons.

The arctic port of Sabetta also intensively increased amounts of cargo transshipment. The port is situated on the Yamal peninsula. Only during 8 months more than 480 thousand tons of cargoes were brought here. Their considerable part – more than 450 thousand tons are dry cargoes; 25 thousand tons are oil products. As we should note, in December the government of Yamal and the Ministry for transport signed the memorandum about cooperation, according to which it is planned to increase cargo turnover of the port of Sabetta, which is being built now, first, up to 30 million tons per year and later - till 2040 – up to 70 million tons. It will become possible owing to development of transport infrastructure – it will be possible to transport cargos not only along the Northern Sea Route but also on land. It is planned to build the one-track railroad line from Bovanenkovo to the Kara Sea during 3-4 years.
