Reindeer by-products from Yamal were sent to Germany for production of animal feed

In Yamal a German company bought 15 tonnes of reindeer by-products of the 3rd category – so-called slaughterhouse offal received within venison purveyance. They were supplied by the enterprise of Yamal “Sibirskiy Olen” (“Siberian reindeer”). The cargo was delivered to the purchaser the day before.

The raw materials were received from two purveyance complexes of the municipal enterprise “Yamalskiye Oleni” (Yamal Reindeer) - in the settlement Yar-Salye and at the trading post Yuribey. The consignment was delivered to Germany by motor transport. The information was given in the press service of the governor of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug.

Lungs, trachea and other by-products of reindeer that are not suitable for food use by human are considered as slaughterhouse offal. The German enterprise will use them to produce animal feed.

“The slaughterhouse offal from Yamal was delivered abroad for the first time. And for our German partners it was actually the first experience of cooperation with Russia, and the first experience of working with products received from reindeer. The purchasers highly appreciated the quality of the product, and next year we plan to increase the amount of deliveries”, said Yuriy Yermolayev, the director general of “Sibirskiy Olen” (“Siberian reindeer”).

According to him, the export potential of the slaughterhouse offal is about 500 tonnes per year, with consideration of potential of purveyance enterprises certified according to European standards. There are three of them in Yamal today – the municipal enterprise “Yamalskiye Oleni” (Yamal Reindeer), the meat-processing complex “Payuta” and enterprise “Vozrozhdenie” (renewal, revival). The German customers expressed a desire to arrive in the region during the season of venison purveyance and to get a closer look at the production.

Since 2019 Yamal has been implementing the regional project “Export of products of agro-industrial complex”, which is a part of the national project “International cooperation and export”. Yamal delivers reindeer meat and skins to European countries. This year about 400 tonnes of reindeer meat will be exported to Finland and Germany; delivery of reindeer skins will make 13 thousand pieces.

Since this year by-products of the 3rd category have become one more export item, which will assist to achieve indicators of the national project. Yamal set the target to increase export amounts up to 6 million 100 thousand US dollars by 2024. The increase is planned due to non-food products of reindeer husbandry, it is not planned to increase the amounts of deliveries of reindeer meat.
